BitTorrent has a new way for musicians and filmmakers to deliver their work and get paid. BitTorrent Now describes itself as a "rabbit hole of on-demand songs, stories, and more." It features in-app advertising, the revenue from which is shared with the creative community.
Available now to Android users (and coming soon to iOS and Apple TV), the Spotify-like service makes it easy to browse and stream content, see what's trending in the community, and explore by tag, genre, etc. Sign in with Facebook, Google, or email to follow your favorite creators and get the scoop on their latest releases.
"With a new app for Android … in addition to the Web, you can enjoy awesome music and video, wherever you are," Vice President of Media Justin Knoll wrote in a blog post. "Know when new stuff drops, first. Follow creators to get notifications when they release new music or video."
BitTorrent Now is the rebranded version of Bundles, which launched in 2013 with support from Madonna, comedian David Cross, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, and a number of lesser-known users.
Initially available for free to users who signed up with an email address, Yorke's 2014 album Tomorrow's Modern Boxes unleashed the first pay-walled BitTorrent Bundle—an experiment that proved worthwhile when the record amassed one million downloads in its first two weeks.
"We started BitTorrent Bundle in 2013 to support breaking music, film, and art, and bring creative communities around the world a little closer together," Knoll said today. "As the platform has grown, our focus has remained the same. Give creators options. Not rules. Give fans awesome experiences. Not content."
