Foreign Minister Khemais Jhinaoui said Thursday that his department is currently working to set up modern consular centres that will be able to offer fast and quality services to Tunisians abroad.
"We also plan to set up digital systems in order to make it easier for our community abroad to obtain civil registration documents," he added at the annual consular conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry.
"Providing them with all the favorable conditions for the issuance of the biometric passport is also planned," he said, during the meeting dedicated to Tunisian expatriates which is part of the 35th annual Conference of Heads of Permanent and Consular Diplomatic Missions.
The minister also indicated that his department intends, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, to further promote the contribution of Tunisians abroad to the national socio-economic development of the country.
"It will also be about strengthening communication between our missions and our nationals abroad in order to provide them with the necessary support," he said.
Jhinaoui said the consular conference will be an interactive debate between heads of diplomatic missions, Minister of Social Affairs Mohamed Trabelsi and Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Imed Hammami.
"The objective is to formulate together proposals to preserve the rights interests of Tunisians established abroad and improve their living conditions in their host countries," he said.
The 35th annual Conference of Heads of Permanent and Consular Diplomatic Missions began on July 24th, with the theme: "Economic Diplomacy: The Example of Tunisian-African Cooperation".
The work of this conference will continue until tomorrow Friday and will be officially closed on Monday by the President of the Republic who will deliver a speech to heads of diplomatic missions.
