[fm]: Automatic’s New Pro Connected Car Adapter Features 3G Connectivity

Automatic has just introduced a new version of its popular connected car adapter with a great addition.

A wireless world

The top feature of the Automatic Pro is its built-in 3G connectivity for an always-on connection. Previous versions of the device required a Bluetooth connection via an iPhone to access the Internet.

Along with being free for five years, the cellular service will allow users to always locate their car, whether that’s in a crowded parking lot or a busy freeway.

While you hope it’s something you’ll never need, the free Crash Alert system will always work with the new version of the adapter. When a serious crash is detected by the adapter, trained responders will contact you, emergency services, and even family or friends.

A new app

And along with the improved adapter, a new companion app has also landed. Aptly named Automatic Pro, it offers integration with a number of smart services like IFTTT, Nest, Hue, and many others.

For example, when Automatic notices that you’re heading home, it can tell a Nest thermostat to preheat the house. It’s designed for the iPhone and can be downloaded for free.

Anyone with a previous generation of adapter will still need to use the original Automatic app.

Wrap-up

Automatic Pro is available to purchase directly from the company’s site for $129.99.

The adapter is designed to work with most U.S. cars manufactured from 1996 and later with an OBD-II port. To double-check, you can head to the compatibility page on Automatic’s site.
