[fm]: Power outage at Lambert forces flight delays, hand checks on all luggage and calls to arrive early

A power outage in the main terminal at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport is causing delayed flights and clogging up security.
That's the word from the airport through a spokesman and a series of tweets regarding a blown transformer in Terminal 1,
"Power issues only affect Terminal 1," reads a tweet from about 2:15 p.m., three hours after the outage. "Manual check in for some airlines. Arrive early if flying. Check flt status with airlines."
Lambert spokesman Jeff Lea said the backup generators are not working. As a result, luggage screening devices are not working and TSA employees are checking bags by hand.
It remains unclear how many flights have been delayed and canceled as a result.
"It is still hard to get idea on the totality of the impact," Lea said. Crews from Ameren are onsite and working to have power in Terminal 1 restored by late afternoon, he said.
Sunday marks a light flight day at Lambert. He said 10,000 people were expected to fly out of the St. Louis airport today. On a typical day, flights are between 15,000 and 20,000, he said.
"If you are flying in the next few hours, airlines are going to have the latest information so contact them. And arrive early," Lea said.

Here are the earlier tweets from Lambert, including this one from about 1:15 p.m.
"Some flights delayed w T1 power outage. Flying this aft? Arrive early. Longer checkin rt now."
The first tweet from Lambert came three hours ago:
"Airport and Ameren responding. Blown transformer serving T1. Power out. Some generator service. Contact your airline for flight status."
The second tweet regarding the outage offered little more.
"T1 Power Outage: still assessing impact of blown transformer. Many services likely impacted. Call airlines for latest flight status."
