[fm]: 'Street Fighter V' Finally Gets Its Cinematic Story Mode This June

One of the biggest features to Street Fighter V is finally being added to the game later this June. This being the all-new Cinematic Story mode but that’s not all, as the game itself has manner of other updates planned as well.

The biggest and probably smartest change to the game is that Capcom will not be rolling out their Zenny currency. Instead, players will just buy items directly with real world money. This is smart as it cuts out the weird middle monetization layer and keeps it more comprehensible for gamers.

The first part to this monetization will be the premium costumes and that in turn will allow players to finally purchase costumes that weren’t previously available, such as the mighty bearded Ryu.

The important thing to clarify here is that Fight Money is still being used throughout the game, as in this is the currency you earn for free by just playing the game. Zenny was meant as a layer above that, where players could use real money to buy Zenny and bypass having to earn Fight Money (though some items were separate from this arrangement). By just having real money used instead of Zenny just makes the whole system more obvious and clear. So props to Capcom for being smart here.

The Cinematic Story mode is an interesting addition though and one that’s been planned for a good while. Unlike the typical Arcade mode, this is a 3-4 hour setup that will attempt to fill the narrative gap between Street Fighter III and IV. Called “A Shadow Falls” this may also not be the last we see of this new mode in terms of updated content.

Now, this new Cinematic Story mode is nice and all but many are probably still wondering where the game’s Arcade mode is. This is something that prior Street Fighter games had but Street Fighter V omitted. To be fair, Street Fighter V is not an arcade game, as it was directly released on PS4 and PC and not ported. However, the Arcade mode is something fans have asked for since Street Fighter V was released.

It’s clear Capcom are aware of this desire for a classic Arcade mode, as there is also an Extra Battle mode planned, but in the meantime we have a Cinematic Story mode to look forward to later this month.
