[fm]: Google Launches Android Pay Day to Reward UK Users

Last month’s Google I/O event was more than just a celebration of what’s over the horizon for Android and many of Google’s other products, as it also saw the quiet launch of Android Pay across the pond in the UK

Having been available in the US for some time, it was expected that the UK would be next for Android Pay, and even though some will have felt the wait was too long, many have been learning how to pay with their phones up and down the country.

Now, Google is launching a monthly rewards scheme to incentivize signing up and using Android Pay, dubbed Android Pay Day, the new scheme will provide people little bonuses for using Android Pay at some of the bigger brands on the High Street, as well as online, too.

This month’s Android Pay Day is today, Tuesday June 21st, which doesn’t give Brits too much time left to capitalize, sadly. This month’s offer is two-for-one on Frappucinos at Starbucks as well as £5 off when using fast food delivery service, Deliveroo, using the code “AndroidPay5” for new users, while existing Android Pay users can only save £2.50 using the code “AndroidPay2.5” when checking out and using Android Pay as the payment method.

Deliveroo’s terms and conditions of course apply, and that means a £15.00 minimum spend as well as a delivery charge of £2.50, so Android Pay users could see this as free delivery when using Deliveroo. As for the Frappucino offer from Starbucks, this allows users to choose whichever Frappucino they like, with the cheapest being the free option. An offer that those about to make the journey home in the fleeting sunshine might well appreciate.

This is a nice incentive from Google, but with just two offers once every month, it does appear as though Google could try harder, after all those in the States got some pretty big incentives for signing up and paying with the service. Regardless, if there’s one thing the Brits love, its a good rewards scheme, and hopefully over time more of Google’s partners on Android Pay get involved to offer more variety and bigger savings in the future.
