Samsung Galaxy S7 could have 12MP camera, come with two different processors.

With phone-centric tech trade show Mobile World Conference a month away, rumors surrounding Samsung's next flagship smartphone — presumably called the Galaxy S7 — are starting to pop up from every direction.

The latest rumor suggests Samsung could release the GS7 in two models at the event, each with a different processor, according to the popular benchmarking database AnTuTu. One model could come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and another with a Samsung-built Exynos chip.

The GS7 may also come with a 12-megapixel back camera, which would be fewer than the 16-megapixels on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. While it sounds like it would be a change for the worse, it may actually not be. As both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P have proven, 12-megapixels is plenty for a smartphone. What matters more now is the size of the pixels in the image sensor. The larger they are, the more light they collect, and the better low-light photos look.

AnTuTu's report also states the GS7 will keep the 5-megapixel camera on the front and come with 4GB of RAM (up from 3GB on the GS6), as well as 64GB of internal storage. The 5.1-inch screen with QuadHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution is also in line with a previous rumor. That said, an even earlier report from Reuters said the GS7 might come in a 5.2- and 5.5-inch version.

Evan Blass, better known as the highly regarded mobile device leaker behind @evleaks (and a Mashable contributor), recently posted an image to Twitter suggesting there will be three GS7 models:

At this point, it's impossible to say how many GS7 devices Samsung will launch and what screen sizes they will come in.

Other rumored specs for the GS7 include larger batteries (possibly 3,000mAh for the GS7 and 3,600mAh for the GS7 Edge), and the return of a water-resistant design and microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Samsung is also reportedly considering a pressure-sensitive screen to compete with the iPhone 6S/6S Plus' 3D Touch display. The GS7 may also gain the new reversible USB Type-C charging port.
